Periscope is a transdisciplinary and collaborative design practice with expertise in the fields of architecture, landscape and urbanism. We offer the same range of skills and services that larger multidisciplinary offices offer but with the attention, dynamism and personal service of a small practice.

We deliver thoughtful, inventive and pragmatic buildings and landscapes, giving equal weight to both disciplines. We think that both are vital to making thriving, sustainable and connected places.

We are conscious that we are designing during a climate crisis and that we have a responsibility to make projects which protect and nurture the environment.

We make high quality contemporary buildings, with an emphasis on the experience, from city through landscape to building. We take time to consider materials, their provenance and the qualities of light on them. We think about how they wear over time and how they differ from season to season and in varying weather conditions.

We do not work in a particular sector, specialise in a building type or adhere to a fixed style. We follow a robust process starting with the site and our client’s brief and work methodically to resolve the issues into a coherent whole. Each project is embedded into its context by research into: the site, materials, technical constraints, a project’s unique set of conditions and our client’s objectives.

As part of a landscape practice we value the natural world outside and bring it in whenever is appropriate. We connect inside to out directly in our buildings and also through other means, such as views, light and embedded greening.

Periscope is a RIBA chartered architectural practice.

We plan and design resilient projects that work for people and planet. Every project is meticulously researched, technically grounded and seeks to meet the challenge of integrating wilderness with urbanity.

As part of an architecture practice we believe landscape thinking must be integrated with architecture; a building is lost without its context. All public realm, urban and architecture projects are interventions within the larger ecological, topographic and geological fabric.

A landscape is never finished; we embrace the power that nature has to produce the unexpected and the fact that we’re building for future generations.
